Heads up, Lions fans! A new addition to Lions athletics in the 2025-26 school year is stirring up excitement. SJCS will introduce girls soccer, coached by Josh Walters.
Walters, who will also be on the teaching staff as a secondary math teacher, will be busy this fall, assessing the current level of soccer talent and interest among SJCS girls. The plan is to play a full inaugural season in the spring of 2026, beginning a lasting legacy for the sport.
As a seasoned former soccer coach at Lafayette, Walters brings a wealth of experience and expertise essential to advancing the program. Walters is committed to establishing a solid foundation and building a competitive soccer program as head coach.
With three children currently enrolled at SJCS, Walters understands the importance of cultivating high-quality athletic programs that not only promote skill development and teamwork but are also firmly rooted in the school’s commitment to honoring Christ. He is dedicated to fostering an environment where student-athletes grow both in their athletic abilities and in their faith, reflecting the core values of SJCS.
Establishing a new soccer program at SJCS will also take the dedication and commitment from families at the school to create a successful launch, according to SJCS Athletic Director Nicki Carlson.
Carlson encourages families to come out and cheer on the new girls soccer team. She also stresses the importance of assistance getting things set up for games, plus equipment and uniforms.
The launch of the girls soccer program comes after careful surveying of the school community. The administration polled families to see what they would like to see as part of the athletic offerings at SJCS and many highlighted girls soccer.
Plans for the soccer program not only include a full season in the spring, but also soccer camps offered in the summer. Summer camps provide an outlet for families that would like to help their girls develop soccer skills while alerting the community to the quality soccer team available for students enrolled at SJCS.
Be sure to take a moment to welcome Josh Walters to SJCS when you’re on campus and get ready to cheer on the girls in the spring!
