Scholar Bowl
The purpose of the St. Joseph Christian School Scholar Bowl team is to glorify God by loving Him with our whole mind. It is a MSHSAA supported academic competition for students in grades 5-12. Students play against teams in the Grand River Conference and in local tournaments. Through district, regional, and state contests, students have opportunities to earn local and state rankings.
Each game includes questions about a variety of academic and cultural subjects. Students compete using buzzers and race to be the first to respond to the question. Points are earned for correct answers, which may be generated individually or by the team, depending on the type of question. Each round of play includes four quarters or two halves depending on the contest’s structure. Scholar Bowl season begins with practices in the fall and continues through high school district and state competitions in April. SJCS Scholar Bowl teams and individuals have received high honors at the conference, district and state level.
Student Council
St. Joseph Christian School offers students an opportunity to participate in school governance through Student Council (STUCO) with a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills rooted in faith-based principles. Students learn how to work collaboratively, make decisions that honor biblical values and lead by example. This experience not only prepares them for future leadership roles but also deepens their understanding of how faith can guide their actions in all areas of life.
STUCO officers include President, Vice President, Treasurer and Chaplain. They are elected from the junior and senior classes each year. These officers lead in several school activities including homecoming and spirit weeks.
Class representatives are also elected each year for grades 9-12, and positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer and Chaplain. Class officers are responsible for a number of activities and events including class fundraisers, service projects, court warming (sophomores), prom (juniors) and class trip (seniors).
InterAct Club
Started in 2022 at SJCS, the InterAct Club is a service organization sponsored by the St. Joseph East Rotary Club. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to join the InterAct Club, where members identify local service opportunities and develop leadership skills through hands-on community involvement. Past projects include a diaper drive for the local PRC and Noyes Home, as well as packing food boxes for Second Harvest Food Bank and collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
Through their involvement, students not only make a tangible impact in their community but also grow in compassion, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of how their faith calls them to serve others.
Yearbook
Students wishing to capture the fun and friendships of SJCS may join the yearbook staff. Yearbook is a scheduled class comprised of students in grades 9-12. Students employ graphic design, photography and copywriting skills to produce a lasting keepsake for all SJCS staff and students. Yearbook staff members also gain valuable experience in project management, teamwork, and meeting deadlines, all while using the gifts God has given them.
