Secondary Fine Arts
Choir
It is our goal to honor the Lord through music that reflects excellence, worship and a heart devoted to glorifying Him . The choir equips students with music that fulfills this aim, teaching basic vocal technique, listening to quality music and experiencing choral activities.
Our choirs perform at a Christmas Concert and Spring Concert each year at our school, as well as several community events. Each choir also participates in local honor choir performances, where they can experience choir with 200 or more participants. Students are trained and challenged to audition for All-District and All-State Choirs, where our students have earned high honors both at the District and State levels.
Band
The SJCS band program teaches musical excellence through a rigorous program that combines instruction and performance for a well-rounded musical education. SJCS bands perform a variety of musical works, including new and traditional arrangements with a special focus on pieces that bring glory to God.
In addition to classroom instruction, band members enjoy access to a network of private instructors. Bands perform several concerts throughout the year and have the opportunity to compete at state, national and international contests. They have enjoyed prestigious honors including participation in the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s National Honors Band, Missouri All-State Band, and several regional honors band.
Art
At SJCS, our visual arts program cultivates an environment where each student can fully develop their God-given creative abilities to bring glory to God. Students are taught technique and given freedom to use their creativity in a pursuit of excellence.
Our secondary art education offers students the opportunity to expand the basic skills learned in elementary school. The SJCS art program includes classes in junior high as well as 4 levels of art instruction in high school and a photography class. Art students from SJCS have earned a number of honors both in local and national competitions.
