National Honor Society
NHS requirements are based on four pillars: Scholarships, Service, Character, and Leadership. All NHS applications will be evaluated by a selection committee early in the second semester of the student’s junior or senior year.

Scholarship
Cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5
Service
Juniors must have completed 45 community service hours. Seniors must have completed 60 community service hours.
Character
A student of character demonstrates the following qualities: Respect Responsibility Honesty Trustworthiness Attentiveness Promptness
Leadership
Leadership is demonstrated by inspiring positive behavior in others in and outside the classroom. Qualified students will be a role model for others, promote unity among fellow students, speak positively about the school and staff, and exhibit dependable behavior.
Application Process
The application process will start at the beginning of the second semester. The application will be handed out to qualified students (juniors and seniors with a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and who have attended SJCS for two consecutive semesters directly preceding the current school year). The selection committee will review the applications. After the committee has reviewed the applications, students will be contacted by the NHS advisor.

- Complete the NHS Student Activity and Leadership Form
- Write a 500 word essay (prompt provided at time of application)
- Two reference letters written by individuals not directly affiliated with SJCS
