Common Questions
How many classes will I be enrolled in at St. Joseph Christian School?
Most HTC programs run for 3 periods daily. Depending on the time, students are usually enrolled in 4 or 5 classes at SJCS.
What time are the afternoon classes at HTC?
Students typically leave after 4th period. Some students return for 8th period if they are enrolled in 8 total classes (5 at SJCS, 3 at HTC). Many students use 8th period as a study hall and are not required to return to SJCS.
Which subjects will I miss at SJCS?
This varies from year to year. Class planning and scheduling is done through our ICAP (individual career and academic plan) process. Each student is unique, and we will work individually with parents and students to tailor a course of study that aligns with their goals.
What if I don’t have a driver’s license or my own transportation - am I allowed to ride with another student?
This is determined by the parents of the driver and the rider. There may be instances where apprenticeship or internship opportunities require students to have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Does HTC offer certifications in the programs they offer?
All Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are required to have Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRCs). You will need to contact Hillyard directly to learn more about credential information. SJCS does not track this process or these certificates.
Can I earn college credits at HTC?
HTC has articulation agreements with both MWSU and NCMC. Articulation credit works differently than dual credit:
- There is no cost associated with articulated credit
- Articulated credit is awarded based on completing a program at the awarding school. For example, if the program you are considering has an articulation agreement with North Central Missouri College (NCMC), students would need to attend NCMC after high school graduation and complete the program there in order to receive the credit.
If I attended HTC my junior year, do I need to re-enroll at HTC for my senior year?
No, juniors who participate in a two-year program are accepted for the entire duration of the program and assumed to be returning unless they notify both SJCS and HTC that they will NOT be returning for their senior year.
What kinds of things will students miss at SJCS by attending HTC for half of the school day?
Students will spend part of their day enrolled in public school, which will be lacking in Biblical integration and worldview from teachers. Since HTC students leave before lunch, they may miss meetings held by SJCS groups over the lunch period. Likewise, college and career representatives who visit the school are often scheduled to do so over the lunch period. If an HTC student needs to attend a meeting or wants to stay and speak to a college or career rep, he/she can let Mr. Miller know, and he will inform HTC that the student will be late that day. These will be excused tardies and absences. Student may also miss extra activities at school such as homecoming or spirit week activities.
Do HTC students pay full tuition at SJCS even though they are taking 3 classes at HTC?
Yes. SJCS does not offer prorated tuition based upon the number of classes taken on campus.
Can a student fail classes at SJCS and make up those credits at HTC?
No, any failed course that is required at SJCS has to be made up through SJCS just like any non-HTC student.
What is the application process?
You will apply online directly to Hillyard. Mr. Miller will meet with you and walk you through this process. Every fall, a counselor from HTC visits the sophomores to talk about what Hillyard has to offer. Sophomore students then will take a field trip to HTC in December, and applications will open in early spring for the following year. Certain programs will fill up quickly, so it’s important to apply early.
