Elementary Music

All elementary students at St. Joseph Christian School receive music instruction twice weekly. Music class includes singing, playing instruments and enjoying music through listening and performance. Students learn to read music, understand music terminology, develop rhythm and learn to appreciate various types of music, as well as appreciate the historical and cultural relevance of music.

Music instruction strengthens interpersonal and cognitive skills, aids in language development and supports academic performance. Through their music appreciation and understanding, students develop God-given musical talents and serve the Lord through this gift.

Band

For those students wanting to expand their music knowledge to playing an instrument, SJCS offers band beginning in 5th grade. Elementary band students meet several times per week during the school day. Students are expected to supplement classroom instruction with independent practice at home.

As with all SJCS classes, band instruction is focused on teaching students to use their natural gifts and musical knowledge to honor the Lord. In addition, student achievement is monitored to prepare them to join more-advanced band programs in secondary school.

Elementary Art

Elementary students at SJCS enjoy an enriching experience of visual art through classroom instruction twice weekly. Students have the opportunity to gain an appreciation of various art forms as well as try many of them in class. As with any art form, SJCS focuses art education to help students learn how to use the artistic gifts God has given them to glorify Him.
