Community Service
St. Joseph Christian School is committed to the academic and spiritual development of every student that is a part of our community. One important aspect of spiritual development is the understanding that we, as Christians, have a desire and responsibility to act as the hands and feet of Christ.
In an effort to encourage a love of serving our neighbors, high school students at SJCS complete 40 hours of service documented with the guidance office before graduation. Service hours are eligible beginning the summer before the student’s freshman year.
The majority of these service hours are completed independently, outside of school hours. A maximum of 20 hours may be served on a mission trip and up to 10 hours may be served at the student’s local church. Students must submit community service forms by the last day of the semester in which the service occurred. Summer service must be documented by the end of the first quarter of the following semester.
Community service not only helps the organizations where students serve, but offers a unique opportunity to strengthen a biblical worldview, cultivating empathy for others and connections with others in the broader community.
