“O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.” ~Psalm 95:1
All students in pre-kindergarten through grade six have music class twice per week. Classes engage in a program of singing, playing instruments, and listening to, moving to, and performing music. Experiences in the music classroom are designed to help students learn to read music, understand music terminology, develop rhythm, appreciate various types of music and understand its historical and cultural importance. Fifth and sixth grade students also have the option of participating in band.
Music instruction benefits the overall educational experience by strengthening interpersonal skills, cognitive skills, language development, and academic performance. It also provides students with skills they may continue to use throughout life for personal enjoyment, to bless others, and to serve the Lord. At SJCS, the main goal of music instruction is to help students develop their musical talents to worship and glorify the Lord.
