The St. Joseph Christian School band program engages students from grades 5-12 in a rigorous program of instrumental music education. The bands perform several concerts through the year in various venues in our community.   Our secondary band has been recognized as one of the finest small-school programs in the state—earning top ratings at music festivals and performing for the Missouri Music Educators’ Association annual meeting.  Students of our program have received high honors at the state, national and international levels.  They have enjoyed prestigious honors including participation in the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s National Honors Band, Missouri All-State Band, and several regional honors bands.

Gauging student interest in band begins at the end of the fourth-grade year.   Elementary students interested in band work several times per week in class and at home developing the necessary skills for our secondary band programs.  Through a unique program of individualized instruction, students transferring into our school, or wanting to start later in their academic life, are invited to participate in a band fundamentals class which lets them work at their own pace to begin their musical journey until they are able to perform with their peers.

Students in the St. Joseph Christian School bands also enjoy the benefit of experience that comes through a network of private instructors who work alongside our music faculty to offer private instruction for those students who want to excel on their instrument.

Our bands perform a wide variety of instrumental music, including new works and traditional band repertoire, so that our band members experience a well-rounded education in instrumental music; we also strive to include works which are specifically designed to bring glory to God.

We invite you to contact Mrs. Cyndi King, Admissions Director, to arrange to visit a rehearsal, meet our band faculty, and to learn more about this exciting program at SJCS.
