The purpose of the St. Joseph Christian School Scholar Bowl team is to glorify God by loving Him with our whole mind. It is a MSHSAA supported activity that includes 6th-12th grade students in academic competition. Students play against teams in the Grand River Conference and in local tournaments. Through district, regional, and state contests, students have opportunities to earn local and state rankings. Since 2003, SJCS Scholar Bowl teams have taken first place at the Class 1 District level nine times and second place at the State level four times. Each game includes various types of questions about all academic subjects. Students compete using buzzers and race to be the first to respond to the question. Points are earned for correct answers. Each round of play includes four quarters or two halves depending on the contest’s structure. Within these frameworks, individual and team generated replies are given, making this experience an excellent way to allow students an opportunity for success and for bringing honor to God. Scholar Bowl season begins with practices in the fall and continues through high school district and state competitions in April. In school year 2018-2019, a sixth grade Scholar Bowl team enjoyed their inaugural season.
