Program History

One of the oldest programs at St. Joseph Christian, cheer has been a large part of SJCS athletics since 1988.  Incorporating aspects of dance, tumbling, and cheering, SJCS cheer strives to be one of the most versatile and high quality programs in Northwest Missouri.

Coach Shelly Stevens Bio

Shelly was hired as a 4th Grade teacher and head cheer coach for the 2021-2022 school year. The following year she accepted a new position, Director of Curriculum and Assessment. Shelly and her husband Brian have been married for 22 years and have 4 children. Before joining our team at St. Joseph Christian, Shelly taught 2nd grade on Fort Leonard Wood Military Base. She then moved to St. Joe and taught 3rd and 5th grades at Mark Twain Elementary. During this time, she received her MS in Elementary Administration and moved to Unionville, Missouri in 2005 to begin her career as an Elementary Principal. Her career brought her back to the area, where she was the Assistant Elementary Principal at Minnie Cline in Savannah. After several years there, she resigned to be a stay-at-home mom with her younger children. After several years out of education, she decided to step back into education, and completed her Education Specialist Degree. Shelly was a cheerleader throughout her Junior High and High School Career. During college she was an entertainer on Carnival Cruise Lines and traveled also traveled and performed with the Missouri Girls Dance Troupe.
