How do I get involved in Lions Athletics?

Each sport will have a pre-season meeting to gather information and inform parents of important dates, times and schedules. Parents are encouraged to reach out to coaches of the sports their child desires to participate in and ask any questions.

Are there any financial requirements for participation in Athletics?

There are athletic participation fees that are assessed for each sport. These fees help offset the cost to participate in that sport. Fees are $150 for grades 9-12 and $100 for grades 7-8. Because the fees do not completely cover all costs, some teams choose to participate in fundraising activities.

Why does SJCS have athletics fees?

Athletic fees cover facility rentals, equipment, uniforms, staff compensation, entry fees, transportation, MSHSAA participation, and the needs presented by the coaches.

May SJCS athletes participate in more than one sport in the same season?

Yes. Athletes may compete in two sports simultaneously as long as both coaches are comfortable with the practice arrangements and game conflicts if/when they occur.

Who will keep me informed of changes during the season?

The head coach for each team is the primary communicator for all changes to your athlete’s schedule, practice times, cancellations, team meetings, awards banquets, fees and fundraisers. If you cannot reach your head coach in an emergency contact the Athletic Director or High School Principal.

How do I donate money to assist with the purchase of uniforms and/or equipment?

We welcome your tax-deductible donations to the Booster Club or athletic general fund, payable to SJCS. These donations may be designated for a specific reason and to a specific sport by request. For more information, contact Nicki Carlson, Athletic Director.

Must SJCS athletes return their jerseys at the end of the season?

Yes. Athletes are required to return their uniforms in good condition at the end of the season. The cost of any uniforms not returned will be billed to the family.

What is MSHSAA?

MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) is the state wide governing body that sanctions all high school athletic competition for public and private schools in the state of Missouri.

How do we communicate during the athletics seasons?

The primary mode of communication is the SJCS Athletic website, the Head Coach of each program and weekly emails sent to all SJCS families. There is also a SJCS Lions Athletic Facebook page where updates, news and photos are posted as they occur.

What is the role of the booster club?

The booster club plays a significant role generating resources for the athletic department. Because student participation fees do not cover the cost and the SJCS general budget does not budget money for athletics, the booster club’s role is essential for the continued development of the total athletic program.
